Event Overview

At Splash of Joy: A Beginner's Watercolor Retreat, participants are invited to spend an afternoon discovering the joy of watercolor. Whether you're a first-time painter or reconnecting with your artistic side, you’ll enjoy guided exercises designed to build confidence and spark creativity. This retreat encourages a relaxed, community atmosphere where everyone can create beautiful art.

Please note: anyone under 18 must have their own ticket, accompanied by a paying adult.

Meet Your Instructor,
Shesna

Shesna is a watercolor artist and art teacher who believes in the power of creativity to bring peace into our daily lives. Inspired by the beauty of the natural world, her art is all about celebrating the little things that make life beautiful. Her mission is to spread happiness, spark imagination, and remind everyone that art is a fun and joyful journey!


Workshop Schedule

    • Meet and greet

    • Overview of the class and goals

    • Brief introduction to watercolor techniques and supplies

    • Explore the therapeutic and joyful aspects of watercolor painting

    • Simple exercises to get comfortable with brushes, water, and pigment

    • Guided painting prompts to express creativity freely

    • Introduction to color

    • Demonstration of creating gradients and blending

    • Hands-on practice mixing colors to create custom hues

    • Experiment with color washes and transitions

    • Grab a snack and a drink

    • Learn how to incorporate simple patterns into your work

    • Experiment with different techniques to create texture and design

    • Create an art piece using patterns

    • Grab a snack and a drink

    • Step-by-step guidance to paint your mug or teacup

    • Explore how to add details, shadows, and highlights to make your painting pop

    • Time to add any final details to your paintings

    • Share your artwork with the group and celebrate everyone's creations

    • Discuss take-home tips for continuing watercolor practice

Note: All supplies will be provided, including watercolor paints, brushes, art journal, and paper. Snacks and drinks including, coffee, hot tea, and sparkling water will be provided as well. Just bring your favorite cozy cup and a creative spirit.

  • All supplies, drinks, and snacks are included. Bring your favorite coffee mug or teacup. You may also want to bring a light sweater as the room is air-conditioned.

  • Yes, but you must purchase a ticket for them separately, and they must be accompanied by a paying adult.

  • Yes. However, you must email shesna@distantstarstudio.com at least 72 hours before the event for cancelation. If it is not within this timeframe, no refund will be granted.

  • Yes. There is an elevator in the building that goes directly to the classroom.

  • All parking is located behind the building.

  • Great news! You are in the perfect place to explore watercolor and meet some fellow creatives!

  • No. This class is for beginners and playful painters.
